We ended our 2016 season with the annual wrap-up celebration on Saturday June 25 at Wilson Park. All blastball teams had their final game at 10:00 a.m.  Each had a pre-assigned spot along the edge of the soccer field - 17 mini-games!

Senior T-Ball
Consolation Finalist - Wonder Tots
Consolation Champion - bauhaus
Finalist - PSG Masonry
Champion - First Choice Haircutters
Junior 3-Pitch
Consolation Finalist - MJ's Scooters
Consolation Champion - CarToons
Finalist - Alfran Trophies
Champion - Milton's Restaurant  - repeat winner! (23 - 22 over Alfran)
Senior 3-Pitch
Consolation Finalist - DieKat Cranes
Consolation Champion -  KRT Services
Finalist - PSG Plumbing
Champion - Tentworks
(Also first overall in season play)

All other teams finished their season during the days leading up to the 25th ( as per schedule) with coaches requested to return the team's equipment (void of garbage and personal items) immediately following the completion of the team's final game.

While acknowledging that this is a team game and that others (coaches, team-mates, pitchers) have a direct bearing on individual achievement, the following players were recognized for their outstanding performances:

  • Ben Quiring (MVP Award for Junior 3-Pitch; league leader in homeruns, slugging % and RBIs)
  • Miya Murakami (MVP Award for Senior 3-Pitch)
  • Kohl Grevenstein (MVP Award for Senior 3-Pitch)
  • Michael La Lafleur (On-base Percentage in Senior 3-Pitch)
  • Owen Jonker (On-base Percentage in Senior 3-Pitch)
  • Owen Gouthro (On-base Percentage in Senior 3-Pitch)
  • James Lee (Senior 3-Pitch Slugger Award)
  • Spencer Daniel (Senior 3-Pitch Slugger Award)

Congratulations one and all --- well done! Be sure and thank those that contributed to your success!

The entertainment, food, activities (Rangers Street Team, jumping castle, slide, etc.) and face-painting booths were open by 10:30 am.  Open ceremonies commenced shortly after 11:00 am (as soon as the games eneded) with welcomes from Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, local Councillors Scott Davey and Dave Schnider and special guest Mandy Bujold, reigning Canadian 10-time Boxing Champion and the area's 2-time Athlete of the Year. Individual and team trophy presentations (as per above) followed and then (shortly after 11:30 am) the coaches were paged to pickup their team's player photos and trophies. (Blastball teams first, followed by Jr TBall, Sr TBall, Jr 3 Pitch and Sr 3 Pitch - with NO break in between.)

As there were quite a few items to be passed out and we wanted to personally thank all the team's volunteers, all key assistants/helpers we invited  to join in the "receiving line" exchanges.

Late-comers were advised to make arrangments to meet up with their team at a specific place. (It was crowded!)  If you couldn't make this event, know that one of the coaches of your team has your trophy, trading cards and photo package so you need to contact your team's coaching staff to collect said items.

Write-up on the event (Kitchener Citizen East)

All activites and such were open until 1:00 pm. Everything was free for all registered players, coaches and umpires --- except there was a charge for candy floss. Donations always graciously accepted for inclusion of others. Thanks to those who helped clean up!

Have a great summer and keep practising!

General note regarding our annual wrap-up celebration

Everyone is encouraged to stay, have some fun and enjoy the festivities. It's a big party.  Donations of used gloves (and any surplus bats, helmets, etc.) appreciated so we can provide same to those in need of such in future seasons. Let's all share the fun!
