All other teams wound up their season during the week-ending June 24 ( as per schedule) with coaches requested to return the team's equipment (void of garbage and personal items) to our equipment shed at Franklin School immediately following the completion of the team's final game. Coaches of teams with Saturday games at Wilson Park were requested to return the team's equipment to our "trophy" tent immediately following their Saturday game.
The team's food tickets and all the players' trading cards were ready for pickup at the trophy tent commencing at 10:30 am.
The entertainment (Erick Traplin) and Rangers Tex, food, activities, jumping castle, City Pool and face-painting booths were open at 10:30 am. Open ceremonies commenced shortly after 11:00 am with welcoming remarks from Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic (backed by local Councillors Scott Davey and Dave Schnider.
Special guest Denise Keelan (City of Kitchener/Healthy Kids Program) spoke about the initiative to getting kids more active and consuming healthy foods & drinks. Through the program, we were provided with 69 family swim passes for City of Kitchener Pools. which were eagerly accepted by attendees and coaches planning a "pool"party. Next year's teams will each be provided with a water jug and $50 grocery voucher to be used for post-game snacks - a great reminder on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Individual recognition awards were presented to:
Phoenix Bradley (League MVP)
Senior 3-Pitch MVP: Curtis Nugent (Burgess Flooring), Joey Sherritt (Mr. KW Landscaper), Keshaun Alexander (Teamsters), Logan Knowles (Tentworks), Branddyn LeBlanc (PSG Plumbing), Lucas Morrison-Kardol (MJ’s Scooters), and Brooke McFee (KRT Services),
Players to Watch: Chris Dillon, Cannon Loschnig, Mikyla Vanderhout, Charlie Burdess and Aiden Baechler.
We got rolling on handing out the player trophies and photo packages to the coaches at approximately 11:40 (Blastball teams first, followed by Jr TBall, Sr TBall, Jr 3 Pitch and Sr 3 Pitch - with NO break in between.)
As there were quite a few items to be passed out and we wanted to personally thank all the team's volunteers, all key assistants/helpers were invited to join in the "receiving line" exchanges. If you couldn't make this event, know that one of the coaches of your team has your trophy, trading cards and photo package so you need to contact your team's coaching staff to collect said items.
All activites and such were open until 1:00 pm. Everything was free for all registered players, coaches and umpires - except there was a charge for candy floss. Donations were graciously accepted for inclusion of others. Thanks to those who helped clean up!
Now we're off to enjoy the summer weather and keep practising!
General note regarding our annual wrap-up celebration
Everyone is encouraged to stay, have some fun and enjoy the festivities. It's a big party. Players and coaches should be in uniform please. Invite your team's sponsor - many would love to attend and celebrate with their team.
Baseball gloves: Donations of used gloves (and any surplus bats, helmets, etc.) appreciated so we can provide same to those in need of such in future seasons. Let's all share the fun!
Plan to come and celebrate the end of our next season -- and the start of summer!
